FAMILY UNITS
KUDUMBA KOOTTAYMA, SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

We believe marriage is instituted by God (St. Mathew 19/3-6) and so family is designed by God. In God's original design a family needs a husband and a wife, legally married and approved by Church. A Healthy family needs mutual respect, unconditional love, mutual empowerment, mutual empathy and shared values and believes.

The coming together of catholic families under the lay leadership of an area is called the "family units". This fellowship is nationally called a SCC (Small Christian Community). In our dioceses there are 1300 SCC's, within the 130 parishes (Basic Christian Communities). The Diocesan Central executives is elected from the diocesan general body, which comes from Forane general body that constitute from the parish central executives which evolves from SCC (Kudumba Koottayama).

Every family units gathers once in a month under guidance of the animators and the vicar in one of the members home of the unit for a period of one and half hours. The gathering follows the seven step process.

We work together to create healthy - God centered - families where family centered individual development is fostered. Each "koottayama" has a nine member executive team. All the executive of SCC's of a parish together forms parish central executives.
